Despite Record Trade Deficits, Small Evanston Firm Bucks
the Trend with Japan Exports
Evanston, IL OPW Fueling Components, a Dover Corporation, and DENARO International, Inc. sign an historic exclusive agreement to sell Vapor Recovery technology in Japan. OPW, manufacturers the Vaporsaver a vapor recovery system that recycles vented gasoline vapors and returns them to the underground storage tanks at gasoline stations. DENARO will use its experience and reputation in the closed Japanese fueling equipment industry to market and distribute Vaporsaver.
The product launch in Japan combines the market know-how of DENARO with the manufacturing capabilities of OPW. "DENARO and OPW have teamed up to bring a new technology to Japan the will promote environmentally friendly fueling." Explains OPW President Craig McNeill. "Japan is an important market for us and we at OPW have operated many years with the philosophy of One World, One Source. With DENARO as our distributor and technical support provider in Japan, we are confident that our products will meet the challenging and demanding market needs."
OPW and DENARO collaborated for over a year to design the unit to fit the strict Japanese fire and safety laws, and in response to the unique conditions of Japan's gas stations. "Japanese gas stations are very small, and usually located near residential areas... also, Japan is very concerned about fire safety," explains Takamaro Toyooka, Chief Executive Officer of Denaro Co.'s American subsidiary DENARO International, Inc.
There are 50,000 gasoline stations in Japan, about 4,000 of which are self-serve with an average throughput of 300 kiloliters per month (about 78,900 gallons). The number of self-serve stations in Japan are growing, and while station owners continually seek to augment their business profitability, they are more and more aware of the green business movement. Vaporsaver not only saves tons of gasoline vapor per year from being vented into the atmosphere, but returns valuable product back into the underground tanks, amounting to a long-term financial payback. Gasoline vapor is a known contributor to smog.
"We are extremely pleased to be working with OPW, " states Denaro President Yoshitaka Toyooka. "OPW is famous for its quality manufacturing, quick turnaround, global presence, and responsive innovation. Japanese customers will accept nothing less than excellence, so we are happy to introduce OPW to Japan."
